Measurement

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR BODY

COLLAR/NECK

We take the collar measurement. All measurements are in inches. Place the tape measure close to the neck under the Adams apple, with index finger in between the tape measure. This allows for ease in the collar. Add a quarter inch only if you prefer them even bigger.

SLEEVE LENGTH

We take the half back, run it across the shoulder, down the arm, to the wrist, and stop in between the wrist and the beginning of the thumb. Please refer to video.

SHOULDER

It is best to wear a dress shirt that you like and think fits you well for this measurement. This will give you a good gauge from where to begin and end the measurement. Follow the slope of the shoulder. Start from the shoulder line of an actual shirt, this is where the horizontal part of the shoulder meets the vertical part of the arm. Measure till the centre back and proceeding to the other end of the shoulder line. Measure up over the curve of the shoulders and to outside edge of the other shoulder.

CHEST AROUND

Run the measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest, under your armpits and over the shoulder blades. Let your arms hang down in a relaxed, natural pose. Do not arch or puff out your chest as this will exaggerate the measurements. Make sure the tape measure is straight all across running parallel to the ground, across the back. Place index finger in between the tape measure and this will give you your chest measurement.

WAIST

These are not the same measurements that you would use when you buy your pants, so please do not use the same measurement. The belly button is the best indicator, from where you should start your waist measurements from. Run the tape around the fullest part of the belly. Place the index finger in between the tape measure, and this will give you the waist measurement.

HIP

Take the tape measure place it around the widest part of your hip, covers your seat. Place your index finger in between the tape measure, this will give you your hip measurements. Please remove all contents from your pockets when measuring your hip measurements.

SHIRT LENGTH

Wear an existing dress shirt this will help.Place the first end of the measuring, where the seam meets the neckline under the collar. Hold the tape measure firmly there let it run across the body closest to the center front of the shirt (watch video). Where the tip of your thumb meets your pants is a good indicator of what a shirt length should be.

ARMHOLE

This measurement is also important for guys who are of muscular built. Take the tape measure and go around where the shoulder meets the arm, measure circumference, do not be snug. Take the measurement point to point, without placing index finger in between the tape measure.

BICEP

This measurement is particularly important if you work out. The bicep is measured at the half way point where the shoulder meets the arm and the elbow. Please the tape measure point to point, without placing index finger in between the tape measure.

ELBOW

Bend your elbow. Here we take the point to point measurement on the tape measure. Place the tape measure around the bent elbow.

WRIST

Measure around the wrist bone. Hold the tape measure tight to your skin, but do not squeeze your wrist. Measure this point to point, without placing index finger in between the tape measure. If you wear a large watch, you may want to increase this by another 0.25 or 0.5 inches.

HOW TO MEASURE A SHIRT

COLLAR AROUND

Unbutton the shirt and spread it on its back. Place the tape measure on the stitch which is on the opposite site of the button on the collar. Gently pull on the collar so that there are no creases. Measure straight across the collar band to the far edge of the button hole.

SLEEVE LENGTH

Place the beginning of the tape measure on the half back of the yoke (as seen in video). Run the measuring tape along the yoke down the sleeve, till the end of the cuff. Make sure sleeve is fully extended. Do not stretch the sleeve.

SHOULDER WIDTH

Measure from the point where the yoke meets the sleeve, follow along the shoulder line, slightly below the collar, till the other end where the yoke meets the sleeve.

CHEST WIDTH

Spread the shirt on its back. Make sure all the front placket buttons are buttoned. Be careful to spread out any wrinkles or folds that might hide underneath. Put one end of the tape measure at the bottom of the armpit of the shirt, and measure straight across to the other end of the arm pit. You will then get the half chest measurement. Multiply that by two to get the full chest measurement.

WAIST

Spread the shirt on its back. Make sure all the front placket buttons are buttoned. Be careful to spread out any wrinkles or folds that might hide underneath. Find the narrowest part of the shirts body which is halfway between the armpit and the bottom of the shirt. Measure from one end to the other end, multiply this by two and you get the full waist. Note this is not necessarily where the side seams are.

HIP

The bottom of the shirt, place the tape measure and measure across to the other end of the shirt. Multiply this by two and you get the full hip measurement.

SHIRT LENGTH

Where the yoke meets the collar place your tape measure there, and run it slightly diagonally to the front placket of the shirt. This will give you, your front shirt length measurement.

SLEEVE WIDTH

Spread the sleeve length out flat. Such that the seam at the bottom of the sleeve is where the sleeve is folded. Place the beginning of the tape measure from the edge of the sleeve. Measure once inch from the arm pit. From there measure perpendicular to the top folded edge of the sleeve. You will get the half sleeve width- multiply this by two, and you get full sleeve width.

CUFF AROUND

Spread the cuff out flat, and measure from the center of the button to the outside edge of the button hole.

WRIST

Measure around the wrist bone. Hold the tape measure tight to your skin, but do not squeeze your wrist. Measure this point to point, without placing index finger in between the tape measure. If you wear a large watch, you may want to increase this by another 0.25 or 0.5 inches.
